Visceral Manipulation, as per the Barrall Institute, is the synchronization between the motions of the organs and all other structures of the body. When a person is at optimal health, this relationship is harmonious and balanced. If one organ does not move due to adhesion, tone or displacement it works against all other structures like muscles, connective tissue and bone. These changes can result in postural and nerve dysfunction as well as being a pathway for disease. The practitioner uses very gentle pressure to improve the motion of the organs within themselves as well as their relationship to other structures around them. There is no pain or discomfort involved and the patient typically feels energized afterwards.
As stated by the Upledger Institute, the Craniosacral System is a physiological system just like the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. It taps into the brain and spinal cord rhythm to find the source of the impairment within the body. Craniosacral work releases the tension that your body absorbs from stress and allows the body to relax and self-correct. This is also a very gentle and relaxing hands-on technique to improve our central nervous system and nearly all other systems of the body.
